It’s unaffordable but you can’t tell some of the people on this website this. They really think that these rents are affordable when they really aren’t in anyway.

The apartment at 2339 Stuart street starts at about $19,000 less, also expensive but offers a lot better. The two bedroom apartment have
two bathrooms
nice washer and dryer
balcony
office space(extra room)
These affordable apartments are NOT affordable. It seems like it will only get worse. I'm a single mother with two jobs with an income of $87,000 hoping to get an apartment for no more than $1,800 a month but I'm starting to see this will be impossible

I’m just curious what these people are doing for a living who rent out the market rate units? They are setting the price for these places. The landlords are raising the rent to these crazy prices because people are paying for them making a 1 bed for 1,900 look “affordable”.

I was looking at market rates in south bronx and the average for a 1 bed in that area is 2k. There must be something I’m missing…

This is so terrible you have to laugh. I definitely have noticed the trend of expensive apartments marketed as affordable. Again, they are thinking we'll be foaming at the mouth just because it'll be rent controlled -- as if most people could even afford a damn month in the apartment!

At what point do we take to the streets and protest?

"do we take to the streets and protest?"

I'm down.

I really want to start some kind of petition for affordable housing to be changed to 30% of an individual persons salary. Because this whole AMI is crap. I've seen ppl even in the 130AMI say that it would be hard for them to afford the rent.

This not so great 130 AMI is more than my pretty great 160 AMI 1 BR. The only thing affordable housing means today is if you can afford it, you've got a safety net in a few years. My lottery 1 BR at a high AMI is now $1,700 less than the exact same market rate unit 6 floors up.

I'll happily sign a petition. As a city worker, I only qualify for 80% AMI and that's rarely seen nowadays. When I do apply for buildings like Eagle and West or Gotham Point, my log # is in the 30,000s or 40,000s, and that 5% preference is useless.

Yes I think the City Worker preference is a huge joke. Especially when they were considered "essential workers" just a year two ago and so many lost their lives while working.

Lol the mayor wants us to come into work everyday to set an example... Give us affordable housing close to our jobs and maybe that will happen.
