I got chosen to submit documents for a nyc housing connect building. When submitting my documents I was about 4 months pregnant. I tried to tell the marketing agent several times and was disregarded. I knew my income would qualify me for a 2 bedroom but she insisted that HPD would not consider an unborn child in a 2 person household. I got a 1 bedroom and havent moved in yet but I contacted HPD after realizing an Unborn child is in fact considered a 2 person household. They told me to request an internal unit transfer from my marketing agent. She's horrible with communication and I've postponed moving into the 1 bedroom until she gets back to me with any news about the transfer. Has anyone ever dealt with this or something similar? How does this usually go?
Do you have proof that an unborn child is considered a household member? Anything in writing?
The proof is literally housing connect website and she literally said she just talked to HPD herself. Unborn child is considered a person when you are adding people to the household. Some of these agents don't know anything or they just try to get over on people because most people don't know this stuff.
I'm sorry that I don't have any experience with internal transfers, but that is so frustrating and bizarre! I applied as a household of three with an unborn child and it was never an issue with the marketing agents or HPD. Good luck and I hope someone on here can be helpful!

For an internal transfer you have to take the apartment 1st and be waitlisted. Otherwise, if you don't, you'll be waitlisted for an apartment at a bigger size while staying where you are currently living. I don't know anything else about the process after that.

I've already signed the lease for the 1 bedroom, so its locked in. But HPD made it seem like as long as I didn't move in yet the transfer is still possible. This particular building had alot of units to be filled and my log # was 27 so I'm hoping they still have a 2 bedroom available as I did everything very quickly. When I reached out to the marketing agent she said that she would look at my file and get back to me with any findings. she didnt say no or that there weren't anymore 2 bedrooms available which is what gives me hope. I know for a fact my income qualifies for it so I would think its just the availability of the 2 bedrooms..

Thanks so much! its been super frustrating being dismissed and disregarded throughout the whole process. I'm just hoping for a good outcome at this point

I would stay on top of them because if HPD turns down someone with a 2-bedroom assigned to them you should be next on the waitlist as long as log 1-26 is waiting for a 2 bedroom. I had seen someone in forum for Eagle + West get approved for a studio and was waitlisted for a 1 bedroom and eventually got upgraded to the 1 bedroom because he was next on the waitlist. So, anything is possible.

Hey there! What ended up happening with this? I'm interested to know the outcome as I know people who moved in and the building kept giving them the runaround until they eventually just gave up.
