Hi All!

Happy new year! Thank you for all of the information that you have shared on this forum. I was asked yesterday to submit my first round of documents for a building in my neighborhood in Brooklyn and want to make sure that I understand how the determination of eligibility works.

For anyone who has been through this process, I'd love to know your advice/ thoughts about taxes/income:

1. Since it is now 2023, are they expecting 2022 tax returns?
2. If I don't do my 2022 taxes until closer to April, will I have to eventually submit them to the city/ management company?
3. Is income from the past or projected income more important in this process?
4. For the income brackets, are we looking at Net or Gross Income?
5. Is there a recertification process each year?
6. For anyone whose application has been rejected a) I am so sorry that you went through all of the paperwork and didn't get the apartment b) what advice do you have/ how would you have done things differently?
7. Has anyone with multiple jobs/ self employment had success? Any advice for those of us with more "complicated" income profiles?

Thank you in advance for answering my boring application questions! And hopefully this helps others who are wondering some of the same things about this seemingly mysterious process.

I recommend you start your 2022 taxes soon. It’s possible they will ask for them. Depending on when the ask is, they could insist on your 2022 taxes. Some asks come with short deadlines so be ready. You have to file taxes anyway. Yes, self employed and multi job holders prevail sometimes. Suggest you do a search In this forum here on various terms; each person’s experience is different.

You will benefit and gain knowledge directly from the source if you download this guide and examine it. It’s not long and not every page might be relevant to your circumstances.
