NYC 2010 is HOT. The summer is far from over, and we already have many 90F+ days. Who knows how many more are on the way.

Does any one know any good ice cream shops? Any place really special?

I have no idea if its still there because I haven't been in years but I remember Cones on Bleecker Street being awesome.

Chinatown Ice Cream Factory is fun, and has interesting flavors like almond cookie

I hear good things about Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, but have never been.

I can only suggest 2 good ice cream spots. Both spots are in Brooklyn and are worth the trip inside an air-conditioned downtown #5/2 train. First choice is ColdStone Creamery on Flatbush and Atlantic Aves. This place allows you to mix whatever traditional flavors you want. Second pick is Taste the Tropics at Nostrand Ave. near Newkirk Ave. This spot offers Caribbean-rich flavors (rum raisin, irish moss, mango). Stay cool and enjoy !!!

There's a new place called Brooklyn Farmacy that I want to check out, but my favorite ice cream in the city is actually frozen custard from Shake Shack. It is rich, cold, and creamy. And the toppings are incredibly high quality. I just had vanilla custard with dark chocolate toffee and hot caramel sauce.

Go to the place near the Brooklyn Bridge that Rachael Ray included a few years ago on one of her "$40 a day" shows. It's generally regarded as the best ice cream in NYC (but I don't know the name of it). Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge into Brooklyn and hang a right, go down the hill, walk a little bit to the left, it's over on the Promenade with a great view of the city. Tiny little place with a long line, but worth the effort.
