There's actually a trailer park right near the Staten Island side of the Goethals Bridge (on your right, literally right before you go on the bridge to Jersey). I know absolutely nothing about it and didn't even notice it until somebody pointed it out to me, but it's definitely there. I don't know if this helps but it at least validates their existence I guess? Good luck.
I had a friend that lived in one of them, and they were pretty nice for what they are. It was like living in an apartment but it was yours and you shared no common wall, and that is a good thing.
They are also right next to natural preserve land which means it is always going to be green and grassy, ponds as nature intended it to be.
I had a friend grow up in one, they are considered a trailer park. Inside was quite nice, she lived in a 3 bedroom 2 bath. Most ny-ers would kill for all that space.
There is a waterfront neighborhood in The Bronx that isn't actually a trailer park but it is very much like one. Most of the houses are no bigger than trailers and sit on slabs and some of the houses have great views of the Manhattan skyline. http://images.neighborcity.com/sourc.../5578818_0.jpg
I think the house in that first picture is still for sale three years after you posted that pic... $199KModerator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed
I was equally as shocked but everytime I go over the bridge I look at it and it's definitely a trailer park. It makes me wonder who lives there and if I've ever met anybody who does and stuff like that, lol. I'm kind of curious about it but have no clue where to learn anything about it. It's probably just relatively poor, old people. I went over the bridge the other day and for the first time I could remember I saw actual live people standing in it's vicinity. They didn't really look like what you'd expect when talking about them trailer parks in the south, more like the older people I mentioned above. Albeit that was simply a small sample.
Also, I've never seen a real trailer park in person, but this one doesn't seem very sprawling, it seems just about as dense as a trailer park can be.
Why would they have to be poor? Seems like they have it made. Living in NYC in their own free-standing building with outdoor space.
This is amazing. I had no idea you could get a single family house in NYC for $150K.
I am guessing basements aren't included in square footage in NY because my parents have a VERY small house in NYC (<800 square feet, no basement, no attic) and the inside of the house in that first link looks WAY bigger than their house and they can't fit three full bedrooms/three baths in their home either. I'm wondering if there is some misinformation in that listing.
Holy metal bars on that last link! Definitely gives me the impression of a safe area!
Jersey City had a big trailer camp for the longest time right on the Hudson near the Morris Canal. For a while there was quite a squabble between the trailer park, the developers, and the city.
The big money won and they put up blocks and blocks of apartments and condos on the tract in the last 20 years.
