Moving (back) to NYC. Grew up in Brooklyn but never had my own real money to live in the city. just finished school and considering a job in times square or 30 rock..

25 years old
single
looking for great nightlife, coffee shops, smart and good-looking girls, fun, cheapish food (eat out all the time), crazy awesome life experiences

Salary: ~85-90K, trying to spend less than $1400 on rent, but i'm flexible
Probably prefer to live with a roommate or two (to meet some people)

I know NYC well and was thinking Hell's Kitchen (so I could walk to work) and still be close to bars and fun - is it decent here or is the EV/LES just that much better for the hottest spots? Would rather live downtown (east village, soho, etc), but then i have to take the train and i hate crowded subways and cherish my morning walk to work.

What does the forum think? thanks for your time..

I've lived in HK and currently live in the East Village. I also happen to work at Rockefeller Center, but not 30 Rock. I loved walking to work when I lived in HK. The problem with living in the East Village is finding a place near the train. I now have to take a 15 (sometimes 20) minute bus ride to Union Square to get the R to 49th Street. On a good day it's 30 minutes door-to-door. On a bad day it's 40.

The East Village is bigger and has far more bars and restaurants. However, if I had the option I would prefer to live in HK again. It's just more convenient re: trains.
