NYC 4% sales tax on clothing & shoes is back again, even if they cost under $110. This is ridiculous!

They should eliminate the sales tax - even if they cost over $110 !

yeah, the nyc really sucks
they have been crying poverty for years and years now.
What they need to do is take a good look at what they are doing, because obviously they are doing it wrong.....

It is the year 2010 you would think by this time everything would be running smoothly and things would be good.......and we wouldnt have any problems.

sometime sit seems as though we are no better off then in the 1700's

Back then, we would've been complaining about taxes imposed by the British. I wonder if anyone knows of a place where nobody has anything to complain about.

They really shouldn't have had that exemption in the first place. It was a freebie and now that the city is broke, the freebies are going bye-bye.

Not a single place lol - I moved to Florida thinking "oh great - no state or city tax" - what did I get for that??? I made close to 20K less than NY - rents are damn near the same and I pay for water too. Needless to say, I'm going back hope and very happy about it. I'll pay the taxes! However, I disagree with Sobro - I think that there shouldn't be tax on the clothes - they really are a necessity not a luxury. I'm not talking about Louis Vuitton clothes but the average stuff should not have a tax on it.

I think we shouldn't have taxes on any purchases quite honestly. We pay income taxes already, so we are being double taxed when we then make a purchase with our after tax money. We shouldn't pay tolls as our taxes go to pay for that too already, and we shouldn't have to pay for private schools because our taxes go to horrible public schools already, and on and on and on...

I didn't know there was no taxes, I thought that was just Jersey, I thought that's why people always shopped in Jersey. Lol that's a shame, I didn't even know this and I'm from Queens.

Come to think of it I don't think I went clothes shopping in the city in a minute (except for a pair of sneakers here and there), I shop in Long Island.

LOL - that is why you didn't realize it - they kept their county tax in LI but now state and city are back so you will be paying even more than you did before in taxes.
