I was just reading a post...you know the normal how can I move to NYC post...and I started thinking about why I loved living in NYC(Manhattan). Anyway we all know if you want to live in the big city you have to work that much harder, and make many more sacrifices, but at the end of the day is it all worth it? and why? what makes it worth the 2k plus rent, or spending almost double on food, or taking public transportation everywhere...maybe working 60hrs a week sometimes.

For me it was just the randomness (but is it really random when you begin to expect randomness?) that everyday brought. No day was the same. People come and go from NYC every day, and you can find every type of person here. The feeling of being in the biggest area, and probably one of the most sought after cities, but still being able to feel like an individual. The feeling you get when you wake up everyday and even though you may see the same buildings it still feels unique. In my home town the problem is people are to freaking noisy and quick to judge...in NYC no one gives a damn what you do.

And the things you can do in the city...and if you look hard enough you will find plenty of people that love to do the samething...odds are they have clubs or organizations for the crazy things you like to do...fixed gear bike riding, long boarding through traffic...etc.

i think most of the people who come there for work or school..most the time to another city it was from one city to another city it was for my work iand if i want to get ino the upper level of the job .. so if you wanted to get to the upper level of the mgn you had to be flexable enough to be able to move as it was need for the needs of the company

Ha, public transportation is a huge plus for me. I hated how much time I spent sitting in my car when I lived in LA.

For me it's really the little things. For example, yesterday (Thanksgiving) I got up whenever, looked out my window and saw that the nail salon was open, so I had a leisurely pedi, then walked over to the corner grocery to pick-up the powdered sugar I had forgotten the day before. After that, I picked up a couple of slices for lunch. After baking a cake and dusting it with the previously forgotten powdered sugar, the hubs and I walked over to a friend's place for Thanksgiving dinner and we didn't have to have a designated driver or fight traffic. In addition, because we live in NYC, the people at dinner were from all over and we had great stories to share with each other. It was the calmest Thanksgiving in the history of Thanksgivings and exactly why I live in NYC.
