I am planning on relocating to the tampa bay area and purchasing a home. I am planning on buying a home between 150 and 190K. I plan on putting 30-40 % down and financing the rest. What do I need to know about buying a home in Florida. We were thinking about moving to Hillsborough or Pasco county. What do I need to know about taxes and insurance? I met with a real estate agent and was told my total mortgage payment would be $975 on a $159,000 home with 60,000 down. I was a bit leery that this seemed to good to be true. The agent showed us all short sales. What are the pros and cons of short sales and forclosures?What are the additional expenses I will have to pay on a home in Florida? What are the taxes like in these counties? What are sinkholes and how much is the insurance? What other insurance is needed? What areas in these counties do you recommend that are accessible to the main highways? Does anyone know of a reliable real estate agent that specializes in relocation? Are there any first time buyer or teacher incentive mortgage programs in Florida? What are the schools like in these counties? How long does it take to close on a house after putting in an offer? Can I use a preapproval obtained in NY to put an offer on a house in Florida?
