It all depends on what you consider 'comfortable.'

Depends. If you want to live out sex and the city like how alot of transplants do, then you'll need at least $150,000. To live here you need to make at least 50,000, but you'd be scraping by then. I think that you need to earn about 80,000 to live comfortably.

With or without kids, that's the question. If you need a three bedroom condo and pay for private schools, it's going to cost a lot more than $150k.

I agree with ddhboy. For a single person, 50k just to live in jersey, queens or brooklyn with a roommate, eat properly and shop sparingly. 80k to live comfortably outside of manhattan alone or in manhattan with a roommate. 100k to live in manhattan alone, 150k - 200k to have a manhattan middle class existence, 200k - 500k to have an upper middle class existence and 500k and up to live really well - remember this is just for a single person.

I think this is a reasonable assessment.

This is more or less correct, although if you really dig for a cheap apartment, and know how to conserve your resources you can get by with less than the aforementioned numbers. If you have a faily though, the whole game changes.

No kids. 1 bedroom apt. Decent neighborhood.
