Brooklyn, if it wasn't a part of New York City, would be the fourth largest city in the United States. You can hardly quantify it the way you seem to want to. Just think of whatever city you're most familiar with, multiply everything about that city (good and bad) by 10 or 15, and you'll come close to what life is like in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn has like 2.6 million people and has many different neighborhoods with many different types of people and lifestyles. Some areas of Brooklyn are great areas to live in but then other areas of Brooklyn are the complete opposite and are not so great to live in. Overall, I like Brooklyn(mostly for its nice areas). It is my second favorite borough out of the 5 boroughs of NYC after Manhattan.
Brooklyn's best neighborhoods seem to be around Park Slope, Williamsburg, Brooklyn Heights, and pretty much the neighborhoods of the Northwestern section of Brooklyn. To a slightly lesser extent, Bay Ridge seems to also be one of the best areas of Brooklyn too. These are the most urban and trendy neighborhoods of Brooklyn.
Grand Army Plaza in Northern Prospect Park, Brooklyn museum, Prospect Park itself, 7th and 6th avenue in Park Slope, Prospect Park west avenue, Court Street in Brooklyn Heights/Carroll Gardens, Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn Bridge Park in Brooklyn Heights/Carroll Gardens, Montague and Clark St. in Brooklyn Heights, The Tea Lounge in Park Slope, and some great restaurants in Park Slope and Willamsburg are my favorite places in my favorite neighborhoods of Brooklyn!
