Where are the moderators indeed -- how'd this troll thread get to 4 pages? In fact what the hell is it still doing here?

Good luck, we suffer twits just as gladly as New Yorkers.

Oh, thank you for asking.

It was rescheduled do to the rain and such. We didn't talk much but he said his basement experienced some flooding so he had to attend to that (they live in Nassau I believe). Poor thing.

I was thinking about asking him if I would be able to qualify for NYCHA, now it sounds great but my parents out in Iowa raised me to have pride and to be strong and not rely on the government. Plus, I believe there are people out there more needy than me so I would feel horrible applying for financial assistance.

I also have 2 new areas i'm curious about, I noticed some apartments for rent while in a Taxi going along Central Park East. It looked soooo lovely, it looked like it would be a PERFECT view of the park and that you could see the Palisades and everything. I'll talk to my realtor about potentially scheduling a showing. What are your thoughts on Central Park East? I know that particular street has a lot of traffic but I know they have soundproof windows nowadays.

I'm sorry, I would talk more but I have to get some rest for tomorrow. Good luck and keep the suggestions coming

So lets get this straight.....

~ You make (gross) 38K a year
~ You want an apt (preferably Manhattan)
~ With a good view
~ Restricted parking
~ No bug infestations
~ Have 2 larger sized dogs
~ Thinking about Central park East
~ And can spend a maximum of $950.00 a month in rent

And you expect people to take you seriously?

This is New York City not Bumtwitch Iowa.....

KeeptheIslanders50 was just asking a simple question about rentals in New York City and deserves to get polite enough answers. The people that were not polite enough should apologize to KeeptheIslanders50.

Anyways, sorry KeeptheIslanders50 that you had to deal with that.
I will help you with your thread subject question.

$500-700 a month can not get someone any apartment in Manhattan and not even for a studio, unfortunately.
Also, it would be difficult to even find a decent apartment for that price in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx as well.

However, you did mention that you are willing to pay more and up to $950 a month. If that is the case, you can probably find an apartment for that price in areas of Northern and Central Staten Island as well as areas of Southwestern Brooklyn. There are also areas of Queens and the Bronx you can probably find an apartment for that price too.

This is a great website to look for an apartment: New York City Apartments for rent New York City apartment rentals, New York City furnished apartments to rent.

Good luck on the move and trying to find an apartment in NYC!
If you are not able to find a decent apartment in New York City for your desired price range, you could try Chicago because you did mention that you have that as an option. Also, Chicago has incredibly cheaper rents than New York City.

Also, I looked it up just now and found an apartment on that website I showed you in Bensonhurst Brooklyn for $950 a month! http://www.sublet.com/spider/supplyd...upplyid=695615 If you are willing to pay $950 a month it seems very possible to find a decent apartment and in a decent neighborhood of NYC.

This section has got to have some of the rudest people imaginable. But you know what, i'm better than this, I don't need to be treated like i'm dumb, delusional or something b/c I got brains, ambition and family/friends who support every step that I make.

I'm taking ALL of my money and looking into Chicago where people are warm and friendly. I'm not surprised that a city like NY would turn away somebody intelligent like me, look at how you all treat the transplants and "yuppies" who have some of the highest academic attainment on this earth. I think you people are allergic to brains.

I'm gone and i'll still be waiting for apologies because I know I deserve them
OH NO! This will create a fiscal crisis the likes of which the city has never experienced!

Mod here. If you understood the rent levels of NYC and the neighborhoods that you are inquiring about, then you would understand the level of hostility that you're receiving. The neighborhoods you chose are some of the priciest in the city; I don't understand why you would automatically think that you could afford those. Also, I'm going to take a leap of faith here and give you the benefit of the doubt. I think you know that NYC is one of the most expensive cities in the world as far as housing costs go. So with that being said, it's extremely ambitious on your part for you to think that you would be able to afford an apartment in the priciest areas of the city. What made you choose those neighborhoods, honestly? I don't know much about Chicago, but I think it's safe to assume that I wouldn't go looking to buy on Lakeshore Drive.

PS: There's no such street as Central Park East. It is Fifth Avenue aka the Museum Mile. We only have Central Park West, Central Park North aka West 110th Street, and Central Park South.

PPS: We are more accustomed to people doing a little research before they come on this forum to ask questions. The fact that you are even bothering to inquire about the Upper East Side (or as you would say, Central Park East) with your max budget currently at $950 clearly shows that you did no research whatsoever before coming to this forum to ask questions. Another reason for the frustration directed towards you by others.
