Im moving to NYC in January. How far in advance should I start looking for apartments? What are some safe, affordable neighborhoods (in Harlem and/or the outer borroughs) with easy access to City College of New York?
Also, how hard would it be to obtain a job within a month of moving there (with no work history except for school work-study?)
Are you going to be attending school at City College? can they help you with student housing or with a work-study type job?
If you really need to find an apartment without the help of your school, I would try Craigs List by November. As I understand it, City College is in upper Manhattan. so really the Bronx ist he only outer boro that would be convenient. I don't know how you feel about living in the Bronx. The Riverdale section is nice, but I don't know how the public transportation to City Collge would be. I think this whole thing will revolve around your budget. What is your budget?
The job market got tighter in some industries just in the last couple weeks with all the market turmoil. My firm put several job openings on hold for the next few months. When Wall Street gets rocky a lot of other industries get shaken as well.
