Nope. The MAJORITY of NYC went unscathed from this so-called "hurricane". All he and the media did was create hysteria by ordering mandatory evacuations from areas that sustained little to no damage all. It was all mainly minor flooding.
Everyone watching the weather reports saw that this storm was weakening by the time it left the coast of the Carolina's and by the time it reached NYC, we were facing nothing more than a weak tropical storm. He over-reacted in order to rebuild his reputation from the major snowstorm we had when he was telling people to go out and see a Bway show, meanwhile the city was in a standstill for almost a week!
Does Hurricane Irene make up for last winters Blizzard?
That was the general idea. And you know that since the majority of the population has a very short memory, they'll probably get away with it. At least, until we get hit with another major blizzard this winter for which inadequate preparation and/or response results.
duh, I knew why he was carrying on about the hurricane, he did NOTHING for the blizzard.
C'mon people, it isn't that bad, stroll around, go see a broadway show
his exact words, was he on crack that day.......and how did he think we were supposed to stroll around with 7 feet of snow.
he is a retard.
He doesnt care about the quality of life for the citizens as Mayor Guiliani did. Bloomie is all for the money, he really doesnt care about NY citizens.
Now the city is whining that so much money got spent on the preparations for Hurricane Irene...let's see what the Mayor proposes to cut back on next, using Irene as an excuse.
The Hurricane was nothing more than a nor-easter for us folks here in Brooklyn. Now LI, got it much worse, people still have power out, and that sucks.
I think he'll benefit politically. He ran the risk of over-reaching, but the floods that are happening in NJ and New England have brought home just how severe this storm was and how it could well have been us underwater. "There by the grace of god..." He did the right thing.
