Barkomatic, I agree that because we have this Constitutional Law it should be upheld. However the solution to the problem is for an Amendment to change this, and restrict gun ownership. This isn't the wild west circa 1750..there is no need for a family of 4 to each be strapped with an AK47 to eat at Chilis for dinner, nor does that make us any safer. Times have changed, and the idea that we are the same country as we were in 1750 is laughable...we gave women rights, no more slaves, and guns should be restricted as well. It's that simple.

Buying an illegal gun is a lot riskier than just using a knife. It can also be very expensive depending on what type of gun you want to buy.

As you stated, having a gun is a considerable advantage when committing a crime and that's the answer to your original post.

Also, although lacking a gun might not stop a perp from going ahead with a crime, it will certainly reduce by a huge degree the probability of that crime becoming fatal.

NYC has the toughest laws in the country... what has that done for us? the only guns that can come in here except via the permit system are ones that are not legal.
im not sure what tougher laws are going to do when the issue is illegal ones.

I must say I don't know what the right answer is for the USA??
In Australia guns are illegal and its very disturbing to me personally that so many shootings can happen over one weekend. Those poor families affected and especially any innocent victims that may have been involved

knives can be just as fatal or even more so than bullets because of the size of the area effected. its just knives are alot more up close and personal and criminals would prefer not to be that close.

Forget about getting a permit to carry a concealed weapon--only bigwigs like Charles Schumer can get one. (Indeed, the guy who is most aggressive about gun control has a permit to carry one)

If a parade cannot be held safely, I'd say the city shouldn't grant a permit for it next year.

REALLY????? then how do you explain teens in HS carring guns...Ive heard those stories before.......what do you do, go to a convenience store and buy a gun???

So if you had to choose, would you rather face a criminal that is carrying a knife or a criminal that is carrying a gun?

i would say gun if i had to be injured with one of the two.. someone even slightly trained with a knive will do much more damage.

in fact the most popular street caliber the 9mm is one of the the worst stoppers of all. highly penetrative and more a wounding caliber than killing. if it hits a critical organ eventually you will die but more ofton than not it makes a hole going in and a hole going out in tissue.

But that's not the choice people are pushing..the choice is:

Wouldn't you rather be accosted by a criminal with a gun, and you are carrying a gun, and every person around you is also carrying a gun. And in theory the 50 people around you will spring into action, whip out their guns and there will be a massive shooting spree, nobody will get injured, except of course the criminal...and then everyone will continue on with their daily lives. Somehow...that's the perfect world where crime will never happen and everyone will be safe and protect everyone. More guns!

Now back to reality...picture your train ride every morning and evening...now picture the same ride, with the same people all carrying loaded weapons. Now picture walking down the street in Times Square, lots of people everywhere...and now everyone has a loaded rifle. Feel safer? Me neither...it's a reason never to ride the trains and leave NYC.
