Living in Manhattan has lots of charms but a curse is that everyone we have ever met wants to visit and "stay over."
Cannot blame our friends and relatives because the price of hotels is staggering.

Has anyone found any Manhattan hotels below 96th Street that are reasonable without being 6-in-a-room hostels? Something clean and safe with no amenities other than a bed and bath...maybe a TV.

Anything at all in the $100-$150 a night range for a double bed or two singles?

(Or do I have to keep putting them up on the sofa?)

The East Village bed and coffee on ave c. It has about 9 rooms over 3 floors, shared kitchen, bathroom and lounge on each floor for around $100/ night. It is fantastic!

That East Village joint is interesting but booked up pretty much til FOREVER...as expected.

Bigger apartment? An extra $100K for a guest bedroom is a non starter unless one of THEM wants to kick in the cash. I'll ask the next one who calls. (That'll shut them up!)
But who knows, maybe someone will say yes!

Guest bedrooms seem to be only for areas of the country that no guest would get caught dead in. "Dayton, Ohio...3 guest bedrooms, always available!"
