Can I board from Liberty State park to Statue of Liberty and then ride to Manhattan? (Newark: to buy)

Should I just buy the tickets in person when I get there? Online seems to have bunch of options and I am getting confused.
New to the area, have only one day in NJ and want to check out statue of liberty and Manhattan: want to minimize riding in taxi and time.
I think you can because I don't believe that they check your ticket when you are leaving the Liberty Island. So you can get there from Jersey side (much less crowded than Lower Manhattan), spend time on Liberty Island and go to Manhattan.
You can even park at Liberty State Park (where you take the ferry). On the way back, take PATH and Lightrail to get back to your car.
Yes, you can take the ferry to Manhattan when purchasing your ticket at Liberty State Park.

Just remember that Liberty State Park is built on a former toxic dump site (a fascinating little factoid that the State of New Jersey rarely publicizes, for some reason). So if you start feeling a little sick at some point in the future...you'll have a pretty good reference point.

Another petty, school girl cheap shot from the residents of the "greatest city in the world".
Liberty Park is not very toxic. It is the OTHER side of Jersey City (on Newark Bay) that was the site of immense Chromium and Radium facilities and their waste pools. CHromium wastes were also distributed all over Jersey City Heights wherever "fresh fill" was used. (Think Erin Brokavitch.)
Probably the landfill under Battery Park City, with the PCB trailings from GE's manufacturing upstream, is far more toxic than Liberty Park.

No one gets sick at Liberty State Park.
