I have to be in Kings Point on Monday, Nov 13th. I am flying into LGA late Sunday morning Nov 12th. I am thinking about booking a hotel in Maspeth. What I want to do is head to Manhattan as soon after I get to LGA as possible. I figured I would grab a rental car at LGA and drive to the Long Island City LIRR station. Then, when I return from Manhattan that evening, the hotel would be a short drive from the LIRR station. It also looks like most of the drive from Maspeth to Kings Point would be on 495 so it seems pretty direct. Does that sound like a reasonable plan to those of you in the know about the area? Is Maspeth a safe part of Queens? Can I park my rental car at the Long Island City LIRR station? If so, is there a cost for that? Thanks in advance for your input!

Why do you want to use LIRR to go into Manhattan from Queens? It is much cheaper to use the subway and you have more options of where to go with the subway rather than the LIRR.

I can't check into the hotel until 3-ish, so I figured I might be able to park my car at the LIRR station. If there's a better option, I'd love to hear it. Thanks!

I don't know about the parking near the LIRR station. But does the hotel have a parking lot? Also why not park in the street near the hotel or the near the closest subway stop?

If you're getting involved with the LIRR, you might want to look into the Woodside station on 61 Street by Roosevelt Avenue. Besides having more trains on the rail, you're also near the 7 train.

Public transportation from Maspeth isn't that convenient.

Is is a safe area. Not usually a tourist attraction though.

Instead of driving to Maspeth from LGA and then going to Manhattan, is there a subway or LIRR station near LGA that I can park my rental car at and go from there to Manhattan?

Maspeth and LGA both are not near any subway stations. From both of them you would need a local city bus to connect up to the subway system.

Default ideas from palookaville

Stay in Bayside Queens. It is a 22 minute ride to Manhattan on the LIRR and 10 mins to Kings Point and 12 minutes to LGA airport. You will be right in the sweet spot. Easy parking and transport. There are two hotels on Northern blvd that would be perfect for your needs. You can walk from the hotel to the LIRR. Maspeth is near nothing for you. Driving to the LIRR is preposterous and only something an unwashed fool from palookaville would come up with.

I suggest that the best place for you to stay is in Long Island City, Queens which has new chain hotels and has convenient subway access into Manhattan. (See Long Island City Hotels: Check out 17 hotels, with 3,600 reviews)
