I neglected to add that I completely agree with this.
It would also encourage, even demand, accountability and responsibility.

NOTE to everyone: I did not fix all of the grammatical errors.
So don't shoot the messenger, as they say.
Why do you assume that all landlords are wealthy and are stealing from working people? I am a working class homeowner and I plan to become a landlord. Do you think it is okay for people to rent a property and not pay for it? How would you feel if you worked and your employer decided not to pay you?

I agree rental prices are astronomical but if you make a commitment to rent it then you are obligated to pay it.

I think you missed what was going on there.

Harlem is just a socialist, its that simple. She believes in the Robin Hood theory...STEAL from the rich to give to the poor.

You're all jumping to the same conclusion I would have - that it's about non-payment of rent. But the desperate person I was checking for was in a bind due to a dispute about illness and clutter. Also, I know of someone being harassed for eviction simply because she's an elderly lady and the landlord wants her out.

And I have to say, of any landlord of my own or a friend - I've certainly known instances of unhelpful, unaccommodating landlords, but not generally a "bad" person.

This kind of harassment only happens to tenants that are under Rent Control/Rent Stabilization laws as it is a one-side law in favor of tenants. You see what these laws make people do? Its not like that in the rest of the country because the rest of the country doesn't have to deal with stupid RC/RS laws.

Anyone who doesn't know the details of some landlord harassing some tenant is either lying or not living in New York City.
Landlords think if they aren't harassing someone in order to get MORE MONEY they aren't doing their job.

It really isn't that far removed from LANDOWNERS and SHARECROPPERS, a practice long ago found to be inhuman.

All large blocks of housing would be made cooperative in a civilized society...but we seem stuck in a feudal period where the LORDS owned the LAND.
