"The Newtown Historical Society was founded to educate the public about the history of the villages that comprised Newtown Township in Queens County, NY. Newtown Township stretched from the East River to the Flushing River. Towns covered include: Maspeth, Elmhurst, East Elmhurst, Middle Village, Glendale, Ridgewood, Forest Hills, Rego Park, Woodside, Jackson Heights and Corona."

Newtown Historical Society - Queens County, NY - Welcome

Kew Gardens is not listed as Newtown, which is the old township that later joined the Flushing township. Historically, Kew Gardens was always part of Jamaica. Modern day Elmhurst was probably the center of Newtown, which Forest Hills would be closer to rather than Downtown Flushing.

Interesting. So I'll have to correct or adjust my conceptions of these areas geographically, topographically, and historically. Thank you for your input, G-Dale.

LIC was supposed to become Queen's major business center but never came close because the land values are too high for businesses to move over and many big businesses moved across the river to NJ instead.

I believe Downtown Flushing is the largest central business district in Queens. 4th largest in the city.

As already said there is no downtown Queens as Queens was never one city like Manhattan or Brooklyn. The Queens City Hall and one of its courts is located in Kew Gardens. Its main library and other courts are in Jamaica. Flushing has one of the main Queens postal sorting locations and is considered another central potential downtown area as well as Long Island City.

I disagree. Each township has its downtown area. Downtown Flushing for 113, Jamaica Center for 114 and Queens Plaza for 111. Same as for Downtown Brooklyn for 112. So you can maybe argue that Queens has 3 downtown areas.

Weird thread to bump

Nobody says downtown Queens, but if they did they would be referring to the area around the Queens County court houses on Queens Boulevard (Kew Gardens)
