And usually the hottest that start in NYC affects the rest of the country and world.

I.....I don't think you really want to know or care about that. That is, if you are a functioning human being here in NY, I think that is the least of your worries
To be honest, you really just have to explore. The good places almost always come about by word-of-mouth and observation. In regard to the places that Carrie went to on SATC... Carrie did not go to these places because they were popluar --> the places were popular BECAUSE Carrie went to them. You get what I mean? LoL. Anyway, these websites may help some. Good luck.
