I currently live in Bushwick but can no longer deal with my roommmate. So...I need to find a new 2 bedroom apartment in Bushwick, a responsible roommate and move in around July 15th. Another complexity: I don't get paid until Thursday 7/12, at which point I would be able to cover first, last, etc for a new place. Fortunately my current lease is month to month, and I will not be penalized for leaving.
As it stands, I've yet to find the apartment or the roommate. Although, I've only been searching for 15 minutes. Even still, I'd like to put some sort of strategy behind my effort.
Time being the factor that it is, would it make more sense to locate, find and sign a lease for a 2 bedroom apartment myself, and then field for roommates? Or would it make more sense to locate a roommate first and then apartment hunt together?
My experiences with the later have been hit or miss and somewhat a pain in the ass, especially if the roommate is a random craigslister.
Looking for advice from others who may have been in a similar situation.

Thanks
I've done the latter twice, and it so happened to have worked in the end...even if the second roommate was a pain. In the past I've also considered the former, but the problem with that is that it's a heavy financial burden to put down first and security upon lease signing - with that there's a possibility you'll have to pay all the rent for the first month in case you can't find someone for the beginning of the month. You also have to worry about being being scrutinized by the landlord in case your roommate doesn't pay rent, because the other person isn't on the main lease...so you are responsible for his/her share.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. Also I've found the above more reliable than searching for a bedroom in an apartment share and having the person reject you as a roommate. At least in the above you can call the shots.
