Is this area pretty safe? As part of my work schedule, I have to work one week of nights (1230am-630am) once a month. I would like to know if it'll be safe for me (given that I use common sense and whatnot) to walk to the subway at that hour. I am a 27 year old Asian female.

So you will be walking from 101st to the subway at 103rd and Lex. at midnight and dawn.
All things considered, NO it's not safe for a 27 year old woman to do repeatedly.

Once a month why not have someone go out with you and hail a cab in front of where you work. Going to work, get a cab at 96th and ride it up Third Ave or Madison to your door.

Yeah, its ehh. I had to walk from 120 to 125 late at night for awhile for school and that was really pretty iffy. Gets better once you get down below 110ish, but I definitely second the cab idea. Especially if its only once a month.

Are you making enough at this job where using a cab/car service during that week is a viable option?

A lot of companies in NYC pay for car service when you work late nights. Is this a new job for you? If so, ask the employer about car service.

I'm transferring to this location from a different location with the same company. I doubt there is car service. I'm a pharmacist and we don't get luxuries like that.

I'm basically just looking for a good place to live with reasonable rent with a convenient commute to work (Bronx - Waterbury/Zerega which is just off the 6 train). I'd prefer to live in Manhattan on the UES. Or I could keep my car and drive to work and be safe and live wherever.
