(Transplants (people from other states) have been around long before this explosion that took place roughly 5-10 years ago... (The difference between those SOHO/East Village/LES/Early Williamsburg pioneers and the new group of hipsters is the attitude so many new arrivals come with)... This feeling of superiority over native New Yorkers and that anything non-trendy to them is repulsive pisses me the hell off as it does to many other people... This was an attitude that wasn't present with those before them and I tend to believe that it is the main reason why there is so much resentment towards this group...

COMPLETELY AGREE. I admit that I am a transplant (born and raised CT, went to school in CA) but I do not share the mentality that hipsters do. First of all, the superiority complexes they have are phenomenal. I used to live with one and he would say the most passive aggressive things if I was watching a mainstream movie like Enchanted or Braveheart. Or if I shopped at Old Navy. Or when I didn't buy organic. Then he'd become such a p**** if I ever called him out on something.
I'm glad they aren't murderers or thugs but their general smugness is so annoying. Not to mention most of them work ****ty cafe jobs or live off their parents income.
