I really do not like The Post, and especially don't like to source them. But sometimes there is one laying around during my day. Read this nugget today.
May be largely skewed by a number of factors. Although it is possible the DOH took these details into account.
People in high poverty neighborhoods are less likely ton get tested.
People in neighborhoods with "language/cultural barriers" are less likely to get tested.
People in neighborhoods with less educational achievement are less likely to get tested.
People in neighborhoods with less health care amenities are less likely to get tested.
STD rates may be many times higher in neighborhoods such as but not limited to: Wash Heights/Harlem, greater South Bronx, Lower East Side riverfront, Greater East Brooklyn, ect.
It's mostly in the dense urban areas in NYC . These are areas with high unemployment and poverty rates and low degree-attainment and home ownership.
It's true about testing....it's taboo to some and some think that it's always the next person that gets AIDS. smh
Furthermore.. The bisexual and gay population in these very urban areas are usually not"out" or are on the " down low"... These men go and have risky , unprotected sex with each other and then go home to wife and kids . Since this all on the hush hush its not really discussed . I believe this mentality helps spread of HIV and STD's

Doting dads/husbands who are closet gays??? Never heard!
OP - Not meaning to be sarcastic but why is this issue important? Are you planning to have sex with your neighbors when you move in?
FHD, to sound slightly sarcastic, why are half of the issues on here important? Is it imperative that we discuss the crack epidemic in 1990? Or the political affiliations of staten island? Or if one block looks nice and the one over looks rundown?
Three of the top five in our Bronx. Sad, sad, sad.
Who pays for treatment and testing? The rest of us. That too is very sad. Keep your junk in safe places.
Mott Haven and Hunts Point are the scourge of the city. East Tremont is no better.
