Select 4 from any borough. 4 locations you feel, know or believe are the worst of N.Y.C in total. Nabes having a long history of crime, lack of investments, lack of potential for the coming future, horrible transportation, location, ect.

South Jamaica, Queens certainly comes to mind first for being poor in ALL of those categories. There's the long history of crime and stems all the way to today. There's really nothing going on in the neighborhood and hasn't been in forever. It's not attractive since there's really not much (if any) amenities to speak of so who would want to move here? The transportation is kinda terrible, on average one of the longest commutes if I remember correctly, there's no subway or anything but there's a LIRR station HOWEVER it's out of the way for 90% of the neighborhood, the subway can be a 20-30 minute bus ride away then you have to contend with the packed subway or another bus or two. It's very far from Manhattan which is one somewhat good thing to ME, I'm not one for all that super urbanity and grit.

I don't see any real potential unless there's something drastic. I know Downtown Jamaica is supposed to get fixed up quite a bit, hopefully it'll rub off on South Jamaica but how far would the effects reach? South Jamaica is geographically one of the city's largest neighborhoods and for the most part (wide margin) it truly sucks. It just has absolutely nothing going for itself which is just crazy. It's actually going downhill again.

I don't know about other neighborhoods, they all seem to have at least some potential even if it's just location. However I'd throw in Brownsville because of all the projects in such a small area, it's just like doomed until further notice sadly.

far rockaway is pretty horrible. i like to think of things from a commuter standpoint and as a result I'd have to nominate Canarsie as being pretty awful. I see no redeeming qualities while driving through Canarsie and main train to the city is the L Train local the entire way. seems pretty awful to me.

Im not so fond of areas within the confines of the 41st precinct either.

Yes, Bushwack is in a downward spiral.

Some silly hipsters cant change a neighborhood thats been in a highly distressed state since 1977.

East New York
Brownsville
South Jamaica
East Flatbush

HM Not sure of the nabe but the section of the Bronx that borders Mount Vernon. That nabe and lower Mount Vernon are ugly and uglier. It might be Baychester but I'm not sure. The Bronx pros should know.
