Are these median rents on advertised listings?

They surely don't include rent stabilized and controlled units, or NYCHA? I just wish when people come out with these numbers that they would be specific on what the numbers are actually referring to.

Anyway, assuming it's the median price of new leases, it's a pretty interesting map. Even Astoria is getting up there (almost $1900 for a one bedroom).

Yeah, that seems like the median price for "luxury" apartments that are for rent. At least in Astoria, that is not a median price for a 1br, no way

This map reminds me of the whole "Brooklyn is basically as expensive as Manhattan" nonsense that newspapers spew...

Yes, but it easily could be a median for new leases, luxury or not. Actually the "luxury" one bedrooms in Astoria are usually over $2000 (like $2100 or $2200) so I can believe the $1900 figure if this is a median price of what is currently for rent right now.

You took the words right out of my mouth. The lack of definitions renders the chart useless like saying the median rent for $2000 apartments is $2000. Or simpler yet "new apartments in NYC are expensive."
I have found after a lifetime of observation that when someone makes something cryptic, they are usually lying.
