The irony that some people can't comprehend is a person who files BK is less of a credit risk than someone just getting by paying their minimum balance and carrying a lot of debt. We can't file again for 7 years. However the person who still has credit can file at any time.
It probably helped me that I have never had a missed rent payment in 20 years or never had an issue with a landlord, so I had impeccable references.

Impeccable? Except for the BK!
You have to wait 7 years in order to file again, so what? Ahhhh, did your banruptcy absolve you of paying your rent? No, it didn't. You have proven to have an issue paying your bills. While the person paying minimum balance hasn't missed a payment.
Filing may absolve some credit card payment issue, but does nothing in regard to the rent you owe next month!!
