You people are heartless.
Most of them are just volunteering their time to raise funds for their baskeball team. They need jerseys, snickers and a new ball. And that stuff costs money!

Those not volunteering their time for a worthy cause, are doing it to get a few dollars in their pockets and to stay out of trouble.
Would you prefer they be robbing you or selling drugs instead?
In an absolute dilemma like this one, clearly the choice of peddling a few candies on the train trumps a life of crime.

I'd say the percentage of solicitors who are kids trying to fundraise is in the single digits. The majority are homeless, junkies, or homeless & a junkie. The performers are mostly kids that instead should be in school getting an education so they can eventually land an honest job

I like the guy at the 63rd Street #1 train who after every opera at the Met greets those going home with one or more of the major arias from the evening's performance.
There is nothing quite like hearing a Wagnerian aria played on a SAXAPHONE.
But he's good.
