Can you tell us where? Like, maybe a borough or neighborhood? What kind of church (Catholic, Presbyterian, etc)?

This is a nice Italian genealogical site that offers free searches of NYC grooms. You do not have to be Italian to use it. NYC Grooms Records Index

From the City Clerk's Office website (http://www.cityclerk.nyc.gov/html/ma.../records.shtml):

Marriage Records Older than 50 Years
  • A Marriage Record older than 50 years from today's date is considered a historic record and is available to the general public.
  • You may request a Marriage Record that is older than 50 years either by mail as described above or by visiting our Record Room Division in our Manhattan office with the appropriate fee.

Most government marriage records do not include the name of the church. Since you have the exact date, you could look for a newspaper announcement.

Genealogical Research at The New York Public Library | The New York Public Library

The library might be able to direct you to the best place to find records of Catholic churches serving German congregations, too.

Maybe you can get a clue from this story about German Catholic churches in the Yorkville section of the Upper East Side:
