As we all know, the "official" speed limit in NYC is 30, because "If you go 40 and hit someone, you have an 80% of killing that person, whereas at 30 there's a 80% chance you don't". Some streets, usually big streets with limited commercial activity or long stretches through parks, have higher then this, but not many of them. Here's some that I know off the top of my head-
Woodhaven Boulevard-Speed Limit of 35 through almost its entire stretch. Cross Bay Boulevard-Speed Limit of 35 in Ozone Park, and 40 in Howard Beach and the Jamaica Wildlife Refugee. Linden Boulevard-Speed Limit of 35 between Conduit Avenue and Kings Highway. Francis Lewis Boulevard-Speed limit of 35 between Hillside Avenue and Northern Boulevard, and 40 in Cunningham Park. Rockaway Boulevard-Speed Limit of 40 east of Guy Brewer Boulevard. Flatbush Avenue-Speed Limit of 45 [] south of the Belt Parkway.
Anybody know the others? I'm sure some of the bigger streets in the Bronx or Staten Island have some. I know Queens Boulevard use to have a speed limit of 35 before all those fatalities occurred, and it got reduced to 30.
There are definitely times traffic conditions on Queens Blvd allows you to go above 30 mph. Has anyone ever seen someone being pulled over for speeding on that road?
Northern Blvd is mostly 30 MPH. I think it might have a faster section near the Cross Island (another poster said 40, so I will assume that is right).
Most of the roads with speed limits greater than 30 MPH are in Staten Island.
In Manhattan, I think part of the West Side Highway (which isn't really a highway; it's technically West Street, part of 11th Ave, and 12th Ave) might have faster speed limits.
BROADWAY after midnight. The unofficial speed limit for cabs is 60 mph.
The official speed on all of Broadway is 30 MPH.
