Can a 'Black' Name Affect Job Prospects? - ABC News
You do realize anyone can write an article, and any article writer can find evidence for his or her own point.

Arguably, having weird first names that no one else had made Oprah and Beyonce. Since their names are one of a kind, you never have to bother with their last names.

And you can be black and named Mike or Karen and be poor, broke, unemployed, homeless For that matter, you can be white and have those names and be poor, broke, unemployed, and homeless. Despite what this article says ,there is no actual evidence that having a weird sounding first name is a resume killer. I've met Blacks with weird sounding first names who went to Harvard or other Ivy Leagues. So it didn't stop them from getting in. Could someone discriminate against your name? Yes. Would all employers or universities discriminate against your name? No, not at all, and not even close.

Not to mention, not everyone has Anglo Saxon names. You've a lot of immigrants with all sorts of names. And not everyone anglicizes his or her name, either.

So again, in a free country, name your child whatever you want.

And it still says a lot, in terms of government positions, Condoleeza was the highest ranking Black woman ever. Oprah is the richest Black woman, and they both have strange names. Ultimately, your success or lack or it DEPENDS on you, NOT your name. If someone people a problem with your name, LET THEM HAVE THAT problem, and you just keep doing what you want to do. Condoleeza and Oprah made it because of their hard work and education.

I'm not trying to insinuate that every single black or brown person gets into Ivy League schools because of it, but these schools have quotas and that need to be taken into account. Whites get passed up every year even though they have better test scores and other credentials compared to others who get in simply due to their skin tone.

They aren't "black" names. They are ghetto names.
"Black" = what someone looks like, varied subject position - emphasis on VARIED.
"Ghetto" = culture, chosen.

And the origin of "Oprah" is "Orpah," which is Hebrew comes from the Old Testament.
I know someone else with that name.

Several studies have been done on this issue. So maybe there is a little truth behind it. The Causes and Consequences of Distinctively Black Names

Despite what this article says ,there is no actual evidence that having a weird sounding first name is a resume killer. And you know this how??

So again, in a free country, name your child whatever you want. True, but in the end they may suffer the consequences of having a unique name. Nicolas cage named his son Kal-El after Superman's kryptonian name. Complete List - Top 10 Wacky Celebrity Baby Names - TIME

You've a lot of immigrants with all sorts of names. And not everyone anglicizes his or her name, either. Yes, immigrants. I can understand a person who was born in a different country having a weird/unique name. I doubt that Daquan and Antiq are immigrants. I even doubt that their parents are immigrants.

It makes it obvious that most Americans aren't even that much smarter than the hoodrats involved.
You say that then you say "hoodrats"? Your high horse seems to have two broken legs.

Dad is a self-proclaimed "super gangbanger". That's enough to label him a hood rat to me.

First of all that's not how you use the term "hood rat". You all outta context. That what happens when you do more reading about soil than your having your feet touch it. Secondly, super gangbanger lived his life asking to die. Unfortunately what happened was a "sins of the father" situation and that's all I'ma say about that.
