Over the 3 years I have lived in the NY Metro area, I have found that NYers go pretty far for their jobs. At one point I was commuting about an hour and a half from LI to SoHo for work one way. Coming from upstate that seemed outrageous. 3 hours just commuting? Before I did maybe 1 hour in total commute by car.
So my question is, how long door to door does it take you to commute to work? If its over 1 hour, why do you do it?
I work all the way down on the tip of Manhattan in Financial district so it's kind of hard to avoid long commute. Mine is slightly over an hour most days, can be a bit more if its past rush hour and there are no express trains. I do it because I don't mind it and because it's cheaper and what I can afford. I commute from Belmont,Bronx.
One thing about tri-state commuters is most folks are ok with an hour commute. Once you to other states, most folks can't accept a 45min+ commute. LA folks also have a long commute mainly because their traffic situations.
I've worked in other states and seen traffic situations around and I prefer being having more transportation options than being limited only to automobiles.
Anytime a gas hike takes place, it doesn't impact me as quickly as those rely on cars.
anywhere from 35 minutes to over an hour... depending on how the 7 train decides to be in the morning. I'm buying a bike soon though so we'll see if I can cut down on the commute that way.
On a perfect day, taking the express bus to the subway, it's about 75-80 minutes door-to-door. Taking the local bus-ferry-subway takes about 110-120 minutes on a perfect day (but it's cheaper). Of course, if there's a delay, it takes longer, though thankfully, I haven't experienced a major delay so far. (**knock wood**)
