Am going to Queens for an event for work this upcoming weekend. The event is at the NY Hall of Science, and it looks like it will be getting out in the early evening (8-9-ish) so past dark.
The directions given were to take the 7 from GCT, walk 3 blocks to the venue - or take the 7 to Willetts Point and then walk down the boardwalk to same.
Question: no offense to anyone from that neighborhood - I've never been to Queens at all yet - but how safe is it to walk from the Hall of Science back to the subway station (the 7) later at night? It looks like the 111th street route makes more sense (that is where the exact entrance to the event is) but I don't want to be foolish.

Advice would be appreciated - thanks so much!
I don't think of that area as dangerous, but I find that areas around there can feel kind of desolate at night. It is a park and bordering a park, after all. I think you would probably be totally fine to walk (8 or 9 pm is not exactly late) but if you feel uncomfortable, either ask a colleague for a ride back to the train (I would expect that others who attend the event might be driving if they live in Queens or Long Island) or keep the number to a car service like Mexicana Car & Limo - Jackson Heights - Jackson Heights, NY and they will send a car to pick you up and drive you to the 7 train for about $8 cash, flat fare. You can call when you need the car and it might be about a 7-10 minute wait. Or call well before you need it and schedule it for a specific time.
I feel like I can judge the 'risk' better in most parts of Manhattan because there are so many other people around - I wasn't sure if that part of Queens (or at least the 3-4 blocks between the science center and the 7 stop) would be busy enough to not feel sketchy or not.
I'd rather walk, personally I just didn't want to rely on that and then feel scared the whole walk back to the train.
Secondary question - are there bodegas, cafes, anything of that sort along that stretch of 111th? Or is it just park and then buildings that are mostly closed in the evening?
Do not go to the Willet's Point stop. Go to the 111th St stop. Walk up 111th street, once you hit 43rd ave you will see bodegas and shops open. You don't need a taxi- it's a five block walk max.
