Wow,a little surprising that De Blasio's lead seems to be growing, despite the NY Times and The Post .It's up to 71% to 21% for Lhota. A couple of weeks ago it was 60 -30.Only 5% remain undecided and less than 1% of De Blasio supporters say they could possibly change their minds.Unless something big happens to change things this could be a huge blowout.
It will be interesting to see if De Blasio can win by the highest margin ever.So far, only Ed Koch has been elected with over 70% of the vote.He got 78% in 1985.Seems a real stretch to get up that high but it could be possible.Only four other mayors have gone over the 60% line,Wagner with 68% in 1957 ,Hylan with 66% in 1925,Walker with 66% in 1925 and La Guardia with 60% in 1937.
Catsimitidis would have made a much better Republican candidate than Lhota.

Another billionaire was not going to win after Bloomberg, period. Not even on the Republican ticket.
People are just asking themselves "Do we want someone who managed the MTA to try to manage the City?"
The answer has to be apparent to anyone with two brain cells to rub together.

21% for Lhota
That's fairly close to the percentage of registered Republican voters who have only TWO motives: to keep the taxes low on the wealthy and to guarantee that corporations, primarily financial corporations, are not held to tighter regulations.
Why is the NYT so antagonistic to De Blasio? I get the Post being like that (being part of News corp.) but why is the times doing this? is it because they didn't get their way getting Bloomberg redux (Quinn)?
The major media, ALL the major media including the NY Times, are huge corporate conglomerates whose main concern is the bottom line. Any REAL leftist populist is their foresworn enemy and they behave accordingly by going into attack-dog mode.
They can pay lip service occasional left of center positions as long as it is good for circulation, but if they think it will cost them a single penny of profits, their true capitalist colors soon emerge scathingly.

Why do you feel the Times is antagonistic to de Blasio? The Sandinista story? I didn't think that was necessarily antagonistic.

I've been keeping up with the New York Times articles written about De Blasio and they don't seem antagonistic to me either. In fact, if anything they are mildly complimentary.
I agree that it was the Sandinista story that I think many people found offensive and I have no idea why. It was a factual part of his past and he is pretty open about it. He worked for a charity and sympathized with that side of the conflict. What's the big deal? He was a young idealistic college student--as if there has never been any of those before.
If Bill De Blasio were in his early twenties today, he'd be living in Williamsburg. . .
