It definitely is upon first impression but you just need to dig deeper there are deals out there but better said there are ways to modify your consumer behavior so you don't end up spending as much.

Only in tourist areas of Manhattan and trendy areas of Brooklyn.Restaurants are quite reasonable in most of the rest of the city.

I have found this price disparity to be true in every city I have ever been to,including in Europe. The best and most reasonably priced food is usually found in the less traveled neighborhoods.

Any good lunch deals in Financial District? Besides Pizza and Yips. Struggling to find something else in the $5-6 range.

food is expensive here.if you search good enough you can find reasonable places to eat without breaking the bank, we have many here in Brooklyn.
The Mayor wants us to eat healthy, but not everyone can afford too.
A dozen organic eggs cost 5 bucks.
I eat eggs like there is no tomorrow.....

Always check out groupon, livingsocial, or any of the daily deal type sites. And finding good happy hours at many places can be relatively reasonable too. Just gotta do your research. As others have said though, if you're right in the middle of the most popular areas & neighborhoods it's going to be expensive no matter what.

Food costs are inflating quickly. It is happening all over and perhaps even more so in NYC.

It's a fact of current life...we are in an inflationary period.
