Yup, exactly what I was saying before about corrupt, useless political leadership in the Bronx. My only question is how that arena will stimulate the local economy. Yankee Stadium didn't exactly drastically help 161st Street.

Not sure but it being open and being used is certainly better than what it is now, nothing...
what would be a good example of constructive use on Kingsbridge Rd? what does that community need? are the needs there different than what is needed on 161 street?
The idea of the skating ring is ok however, I think that perhaps having a multi function place would've been better. not JUST an ice rink.
It's supposed to be this massive winter sports facility with several rinks not just one rink. There is even talk of a minor league hockey team using it. I also have heard some non-profits will be given office space there...

Don't think further retail was necessary and if anything it would have hurt the healthy mom-pop retail already on kingsbridge and it would have also hurt the nearby shopping strip on Fordham Road. The community needs several things it's hard to pinpoint it on one thing. NO matter what whatever was built there was not going to answer all the problems...
when i was in high school (1979) i had an English teacher who spoke of her teaching days at Walton HS and described the area (as of 1979) as of "now a dreadful slum, along a subway line".
was that area back in those days really as described; in fact is it so today?
i guess my point is will anything that does get built on the Armory site going to change the 190's that has a rather bad rep amongst CD posters, especially nearby 194th street?
