I wanted to move to East NY until I visited a friend's family.... (New York: houses, to buy)

I don't know ... maybe my call is in law enforcement ?? A job where I would ride around and spot things and get the bad guys in this area really picks my interest.. hmmmm
Paterson, NJ... although I do feel black ghetto is DIFFERENT than spanish ghetto.
Black ghetto ( i.e ENY) seems more hardcore to me than a spanish hood
Paterson got some pretty rough projects....but ENY is pretty much among the best of worst when it comes to bad neighborhoods in ENY. So whatever you saw New Years Eve, I'm not surprised. ENY got Spanish too though. Maybe a few decent blocks with hardworking people here and there but it's overall a slum.

Cant decide which is worse, being a cop there or living there.
Lol at this thread. You can't be from the hood. Why would you even spend your New Year's Eve there? Euclid Avenue on the A? Lol. It's like that on Pitkin all the way to the end.
It's indeed a gritty and gloomy area, especially at night. He/she was actually at ENY proper near the City Line area. Pitkin can be quite gloomy and gritty, not much stuff of interest around. I can see why Death Wish 4 with Charles Bronson was filmed in ENY (when it was at it's worst).
There are a lot of shady individuals, I think there is also a group homes and homeless shelters nearby also. I would Break East Brooklyn into several areas - ENY proper (composes New Lots), City Line (bordered by Atlantic Ave and the Conduit), Cypress Hills (north of Atlantic Ave), The Hole (south of the Conduit and Elderts Lane) and Spring Creek-Starret City (south of Flatlands Ave).
Google Maps and other programs are no longer showing City Line or Cypress Hills as part of East New York.
