This is why people should stop asking "IS IT SAFE" **** can happen in any area of the city.

Anyhow, part of the reason for being tough on jay walking in that particular section im assuming was because of all the recent car accidents/deaths that have happened in that intersection. I dont get why it even had to escalate that way.

They were writing him up and he just started walking away. He didn't respond to orders to stop and in the process of being forcibly retrained fell to the ground and injured his head. The 84 year old man only spoke cantonese & chinese and had no idea what the police wanted with him. He probably knew he was in trouble for something but refused to co-operate.

NYPD totally bungled this, I promise you that Cop is on desk duty as we speak

BlakeJones...ultimately if he did bungle this and is on desk duty..he sure doesn't care...keeps him out of the cold and comfy playing on the internet. DeBlasio and Bratton were in full force defending his actions as appropriate and justified.. WTF!! And that only means we will be seeing alot more unnecessary brutality because that is the culture they are continuing to promote. There is no other reaction or actions by cop besides attack and arrest....we have a simple minded police force of brutes who are protected by our elected officials.

It's pathetic...as usual...stay away from cops..they are not your friend and are not there to help you.

cops adapt to the environment where they work.
the toughness of nyc residents cultivates tough cops who are constantly on guard with minimal trust of the people they deal with as compared with those in other civilized states such as texas and florida. put yourself in their shoes and feel their daily challenge in dealing with all sorts of people behind various tasks.

i do not like the attitude that nyc cops bear in general, but i understand that they are regular cops exposed to more challenging working environment. If you select and train cops as if you were selecting/training for docs and lawers, and compensate them with equivalent salaries, you will get more quality in the police forces. but can you afford that?

Anyone who is complaining that texas and florida are "more civilized" states, with "more civilized" police should be ignored and dismissed as hacks. Sorry dude..you just lost whatever credibility you had.

texas and florida are states, not cities, so some parts can have better police forces than nyc. ny pipsqueak police sux about as much as any rogue force in florida or texas. there's no difference between a redneck dixie cop and a rubberneck yankee cop anyway. they're all a-holes.
