Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you would take the S79 and get off Hylan/Seaview. I don't think the S53 will bring you directly there. You can pick up the bus on 86th or 92nd.

If I remember correctly, the bus from Bay Ridge is 5 bucks return to SIUH? Where exactly would I pick up the bus from? 86th or 92nd?

cheers,
Either 86th Street & 4th Avenue, or 92nd Street & Fort Hamilton Parkway. Be warned that buses can get pretty crowded at times.

Correct. The S53 doesn't go to Hylan & Seaview.

Though for what it's worth, if there's an issue with the S79 (as in, some insane issue where you've waited 30 minutes for a bus, and nothing has showed up), the backup plan would be to take the S53 to Hylan & Clove, where you have the option of the S78 or S79. But it's only worth it if there's some really crazy backup, because under normal circumstances, it's just quicker to wait for the S79 (the S53 takes a longer route to get to Hylan & Clove, and on top of that, you have to factor in the time to transfer).

Bay Ridge is much nicer, more developed. Sunset Park is rougher around the edges (not dangerous though) and cheaper.
