With my husband's work, we may be moving up to NYC. His job will be in Manhattan and we are thinking of living in Brooklyn. But we are also willing to think about other areas as well. On another thread I asked about Brooklyn, so on here I would like to know what other areas could fit our criteria? He does not mind a commute under an hour.

We are a family of three: My husband and I and our 6 year old child. We are a very international family (husband is from UK, child raised in part in Japan and speaks Japanese, have traveled around the world). We are into art, organic food, unique food cafes, unique shops, travel.

So to sum up, here is what we are looking for:

- A safe neighborhood
- we want an urban feeling neighborhood. Not suburban.
- a neighborhood not known for intense bed bug infestations! Does that leave any?
- A neighborhood that has organic food shops
- A neighborhood that has great independent cafes not chains.
- Our budget for a 2 bedroom/ 2 bath would be $2,500-$3500 a month
-nearby playgrounds would be nice

Either in the neighborhood or a short distance away we would like:
- A place that is "hip": art galleries, interesting things going on
- A neighborhood that has great independent cafes and restaurants - not chains.

So is Brooklyn a good fit? Or are there neighborhoods either North of Manhattan, or anywhere else that would fit us?

Any advice appreciated! Thanks!

I think if you open one more thread and don't use the 'search forum' feature, you might get lucky and get the answers you're looking for.

Hope that helps.

Good luck!

You'll probably find something nicer in Queens than Brooklyn for that budget. "Nice" areas in Brooklyn have more crime than "bad" areas in Queens.
