So I'm filling out an application for a lottery housing and the amount and detailed info they ask makes me feel uneasy to the point of making me paranoid. They ask for ss#, DOB, and all my bank account numbers. Short of a copy of my passport, ss card, and birth certificate and they pretty much have my identity. Whats more is that the application needs to be physically mailed (regular mail or it's rejected) so someone will have my info when he enters it into the system. Is asking for all this information normal?

They're going to do a background check on you. I know how you feel, even doctors are asking for SS# these days. It makes you think about all the people in these offices who have access to your information.

This is a normal, they could go deeper later on so prepare yourself, just part of the process.
Usually very little info is gleaned on application. It is when your turn for an apartment comes up that the real scrutiny begins.
A corollary is that you might as well put down numbers that fit the criteria on the initial go-round. Only the numbers at the final call-up will matter and by then you might fit the criteria, or be able to "bend" a little to fit.
Well, I am not that worried about the ss# part. I think that's pretty standard to ask nowaday (ie. doctors, insurance, etc.). However, all my account #s is a bit too much. If the application gets "lost" during the process I could lose everything.

This is part of the process. They look into everything. Wait till your called in for an interview, they collect stacks of paper from you and you don't get it back. If your not comfortable relieving almost every detail about your life affordable housing isn't for you.
Yep and prepare yourself because the closer you get to getting approved for an apartment the more they will ask. It is a long and annoying process but worth it in the end.
