New York City’s first lady, Chirlane McCray, didn’t much care for her new role as a mother after daughter Chiara was born — and looked for any excuse to keep away from her little girl. In a startlingly frank confession, Mayor Bill de Blasio’s wife says she was unable to embrace motherhood and initially neglected Chiara, who last year dropped the bombshell that she was in treatment for abusing booze and pot.
“I was 40 years old. I had a life. Especially with Chiara — will we feel guilt forevermore? Of course, yes,” McCray told New York magazine for its cover story this week.
“But the truth is, I could not spend every day with her. I didn’t want to do that. I looked for all kinds of reasons not to do it.”

I'm not a fan of her but I would say the headlines don't really represent the story she told.
Well, this is QUOTE:
“I was 40 years old. I had a life. Especially with Chiara — will we feel guilt forevermore? Of course, yes,” McCray told New York magazine for its cover story this week.

Who look for reasons not to be with her newborn child?

I read the article and I don't agree that she is a bad mom. I think new mothers have ups and downs, which is commonly referred to as postpartum depression. I recall a number of actresses have spoken about their experiences. Drew Barrymore openly admitted that she hated her new born baby. The tabloids however chose not to judge Drew. I don't recall reading any headlines w/ "bad mom" written in the subject line.
It amazes me that people won't just admit that many feel at liberty to insult the NY City mayor's wife because she's a black woman, nothing more -nothing less. If she were white, the papers would not be so forthright with their insults.
Also, spare me the details about Chiara's drug use. The truth is, their daughter is set to graduate from college soon. Have you not seen all of the NY times articles on the white youth who are addicted to heroin? There's a big difference between marijuana and opiates. Strangely, even when white youth are full-blown junkies, their parents and communities continue to hold out hope for them, yet the same people want to pretend that Chiara is bad news because she did a stint in rehab for alcohol and pot.

I hope somebody is paying you to post all this stuff. It would be really lame if you did this in your free time.

Now what's really sad is this thread being here at all. I think it should be on the gossip/entertainment section or something closer fitting to that rag called the NY Post.

Did Chirlane McRay say she had post-partum depression?
Stop making things up the way you want them to be and go by the facts.
“I was 40 years old. I had a life. Especially with Chiara — will we feel guilt forevermore? Of course, yes,” McCray told New York magazine for its cover story this week.

She's being HONEST. And, believe it or not, there are lots of mothers who don't want to be around their newborns --- they could have postpartum depression, they may feel they cannot be a good mother, etc.
Not everyone has the "I fell in love with the baby the second I laid eyes on her/him" that people claim to have.
Don't lump every female on the planet as "automatic mommy" the second they give birth. It doesn't work that way.
