1250 is a joke price for what you want. some ppl. will call you a troll but i will answer you. you can get something for 1250, probably with a broker fee on top of it, in a dangerous area. in a good area, you will (and should) expect bugs, some noise or a lot of noise from poor neighbors (your rent fee determines the class of ppl. you live with), and dishwashers are not common in nyc apartments. your rent does not only determine where and how you live but also how your neighbors live. ppl. always want to forget about that part.
Peter Cooper Village/Stuyvesant Town (<a href=ʺhttp://www.pcvstliving.comʺ>no-fee apartments nyc</a> ) is in the heart of Manhattan. PCVST is a large community that offers great amenities and activities like fitness center, ice rink, social functions, and much more. PCVST also offers lovely no-fee affordable apartments. Definitely check PCVST on your search.
You could try Newark or the Journal Square area of Jersey City.
Studios in the nice areas of Queens (Astoria, Sunnyside, Forest Hills) start at $1400. If you could increase your budget a bit, you can certainly find something in these areas.
There a nice complex in Astoria and it was 1440 for a two bedroom. I am assuming the one bedrooms are around the 1200 price. its on 21st street and 21st avenue. Alittle walk from the N train at Ditmars, but you do have the bus to take you to the subway

It sounds like Peter Cooper Village and Stuyvesant are having a really hard time filling vacant apartments. My guess is the asking rents are set at Tribeca prices when they're offering a crappy location far from the subway. They should consider slashing rents by at least 25%
Look for a studio in Jackson Heights... JH is the best bargain right now in NYC IMO.
But a D/W in a studio apt? Why? A young professional who lives alone and works in the city is rarely going to use enough dishes to warrant a D/W.
