The Supreme Court has repeatedly ruled that police officers at all levels of the government have no duty to protect the citizens of this country individually only society at large..
It is the job of police officers to investigate crimes and arrest criminals . this has been the court standings for more than 30 years now.. they are an investigative unit.

now you understand why the right to bear arms to protect yourself is an important consideration.

Uniformed & plainclothes units are First Responders & make the majority of NYC arrests on view, not after investigations. Detectives do their fair share, especially in major crimes, but that's only part of the job.

Your assertion is not an explanation. People, whether armed or not, are far less capable of defending themselves. That's why people call the police, who make millions of criminal arrests annually, while citizens make a comparative handful.

citizens make few arrests because we are not out there looking for bad guys , we certainly wouldn't look for them un-armed and we certainly do not want to risk a civil suite or being blamed for escalating a situation.

we had some bad guys breaking in to the cars in our community driveway. it got to the point i stopped putting a radio in.

what i wanted to do was get a silent pager alarm ,come down stairs and nab them one night. but i wasn't going down unarmed and if i did i could find myself not only in hot water with the law but facing a civil suit as well.

it wasn't worth the effort to apprehend them as a civilian, the legal risks are way to high. pehaps if like the old days we got to form civilian posse's and spend our day looking for bad people we would surpass the cops.

it does not matter who is deemed first responders, what matters is what courts have ruled on the subject..

this is true of any police department.
no one has ever gotten sued for writing up a police report after a crime is committed.
close to 100% of black and white calls to poor urban areas result in a complaint or law suit.
