I'm very interested in the late 60s and early 70s but I can't seem to find any pictures of New York during Christmas from 1967-1973. I'd like to see a more grittier Christmas season in New York and if anyone has links of photos/videos or can post photos of Rockefeller Center, Radio City, Times Square, Macy's, Central Park, etc. during Christmas in the 60s/early 70s, I would really appreciate it.
Why are so many people on this forum obsessed with how the city was in the 60s, 70s and 80s? I lived through most of it and I don't get it. The city s@cked! Yeah there were crowds in Rockerfeller Center but midtown and the other aforementioned places were dangerous places back then. There are no pictures because the thieves stole all of the cameras! Lol just kidding.

The others I get but Rockefeller Ctr and Radio City were dangerous places?
I got plenty of pics of NY during Christmas in the late 70's but they're on photo prints or slides. Im not computer savvy and don't know how to scan them in so you can see them online
RC and Radio City were as safe as they are today it was the area west of 6th Avenue that was sketchy in midtown. 7th and Broadway in the 40's had a lot of porn and pickpockets
when i was a teen i always used to hack around 6th Avenue in the 40's to go to the McGrawHill bookstore and Classic Bookshop on 48th and 6th and often patronized a gyro/souvlaki stand on 44th and 6th. my dad often got concerned because 6th Ave in the lower 40's had porn shops and was sleazy and he often discouraged me from hanging around there

Pardon for going way off topic but that's what I thought. RC and Radio City was always safe or as safe as NYC can ever be. I know 7th Ave, B'way and 8th Ave from 49th thru -low 30's were sketchy places but I didn't know it traveled all the way to 6th Avenue. But then again, apparently Bryant Park had it's share of druggies and prostitutes back in the day. Question, was the Diamond District sketchy as well?
Old-timers have told me Park Avenue South had the occasional prostitute which I find really hard to believe. I know the upper west side wasn't all that great with it's plethora of welfare hotels and drug addicts (Needle Park). Makes me wonder was Park Ave and the Upper East Side the only safe places in Manhattan in the 70's?
Park Ave in the 30's may have had prostitutes but nothing like what was on Eighth Avenue. Back in the early 70's Eighth Avenue had a section of it barricaded by the police (between 45th and 48th streets) during the late nite hours due to constant throngs of prostitutes and drug trafficking in the early 70's. I personally remember a vagrant shooting at bystanders in the Port Authority Bus terminal after grabbing a cop's gun in 1978; the following year a gang wildly rampaged thru the underground kiosk at 42nd and 8th robbing and attacking pedestrians
Restaurant Row (W 46th between 8th and 9th) was taken over by the Guardian Angels in the late 80's to deter the crack trade and prostitution on the trendy block
6th Avenue had several porn shops including peep shows and adult bookstores on the W side of the avenue where there were no skyscrapers between 42nd and 45th streets. those sidestreets going toward Times Square from 6th were loaded with flophouse hotels and were shady places to walk at night after the theaters let out . but where the skyscrapers began at 46th it got better

7th in the 30's was OK, in the 40's it was loaded with lots of porn, occasionally crimes happened at the "X" but most of the crime was confined to 42nd street between 7th-8th and 8th between the Port Authority and 50th or so
worst part of Harlem was from 127th to 159th between St Nick's and the Harlem River with the corner of 8th and W 147th being the corner where you were most likely to get hit by gunfire
