Westchester property taxes are very high. There are nice houses in Marble Hill and Kingsbridge in the NW Bronx for under half a million. Perfectly safe neighborhoods.
More than an hour drive time most days and property taxes can be costly in certain areas. Plus transportation costs. Busing it in is about $600 for the month. Or comparable gas/tolls if commuting daily.

I thought about this and realized there must be coop maintenance charges on the house, and maybe that's why it's so cheap. But this site lists the house as well and says the monthly charge is only $240. The taxes are $900.

Edgewater Park is a homeowners coop. There are numerous hoops to jump through to get passed their board. The main one is you must have 3 references from current park residents. Also, they''re currently being sued for discrimination so that should you a clue as to the demographics and attitudes.
ETA: I am familiar with that house. the 1/2 on the address signifies it shares a lot with another house. Edgewater houses are already one on top of the other. 1/2 lots you can open the window and hold hands with your neighbor.
