A couple of people on this forum live in Harlem and can probably suggest some good places to check out for beers/drinks. I only go there once in a while to visit popular places like Red Rooster, Harlem Tavern or Ginny's Supper Club.
If you walk along West 125th street you'll see the popular Apollo Theatre. They give tours and that might be worth checking out.
