How long ago did you lived there? Those blocks go in this order 8th, 7th, Lenox. That particular block W147th that runs along those Aves hasn't changed much. Although the area has. Where there were vacant lots there are now luxury condo buildings on 145th St. The rest is pretty much the same.

hello, i lived there in 1985 to 1987, it was getting pretty bad then, a lot of drugs and prostitutes. the building i lived in was very unsafe. i lived right across the street from the supermarket. there was bar in dounstairs.

In the 70's the corner of 147th and 8th was considered the most dangerous corner in the city with the highest likelihood of getting hit by bullets

hey NYGirl... is the Texas Star greasy spoon still there on 147 & St Nick? Used to be a favorite in the neighborhood for lunch. It was convenient when I worked in the police station there in the subway since it was right upstairs.

Years ago (before 1988) there was a small burger joint on 145 St just east of St Nick. I think it was two Greek brothers ran the place until they were close to 70 years old. They had awsome burgers & it was a throwback into the 1950's when you walked into the place. It looked like they hadn't changed a thing in years.

Texas star is still there and they still do good business. I go up there a lot I have family in the neighborhood.
