There's already a thread about Trump firing Bharara. The question now is what he will do next. I don't see him hanging out a shingle and doing house closings.
There is precedent for former US Attorneys for the Southern District of NY running for NYC Mayor, and winning. And, conveniently, there is an election for that office coming up, where the incumbent is politically wounded.
Not mayor, too small beer. Governor of NYS instead.
Besides NYC mayors are term limited and thus Preet could be out in eight years max. OTOH the guy could be governor of NYS for four, eight, twelve or more years.......
This or let him run for senate in 2018 against the Gillibrand woman.

Hmmmmmm...................
He has expressed his disdain for partisan politics many times and has also said he loved his job so much he wanted to stay as the US attorney "forever". Also, his good friend, mentor and sponsor for his position as US attorney was Chuck Schumer.
Everyone seems to be speculating about him running for office but it's funny that it mostly comes from people who are opposed to Cuomo or DeBlasio and he is probably a Dem. Again, sponsored by Chuck Schumer and appointed by President Obama.
Because of the above, chances are probably better that if he runs for public office at all it would be Attorney General so he could continue doing what he loves to do and that he would probably do it as a Dem or Ind.
If he decided to run against either Cuomo or Gillebrand ,either in a primary or general, election he would probably lose. He would lose to De Blas in a mayoral primary but could beat him as an Ind fairly easily. But I really don't think he has any desire to run for or become mayor.
US attorney is always an office with a limited future. And any follow on position is likely political (State AG, head of a federal LE organization, US AG, or straight up political office as discussed.) If he wants to go anywhere other then something like private practice or corporate, he's going to have play politics.

Current NYS AG is doing rather well and thus no need to vote him out of office.
Meanwhile Cuomo is another matter. Besides having already been a prosecutor another attorney general move isn't exactly a upwards climb. Governor, mayor, senator OTOH is something that would be a step up. Mayor though is rather limited; just ask Rudy G who despite being the "people's mayor" or some such nonsense after 9/11/01 has never held another elected office.
PB could and likely would beat Cuomo in a governor race. First AC isn't all that popular *and* he is going for a third term. Next the culture of corruption and "three men in a room" that Cuomo initially ran on cleaning up still exists. In short Albany is still a hot mess of corruption.
PB is hampered by not being a born American citizen so that rules out a POTUS. VPOUS is also out since he couldn't become POTUS if (God forbid) his running mate died or otherwise was legally incapacitated while in office.
The guy would make an excellent AG of the USA, but it will be four years at best before the WH can change hands.
